Community medicine: a medical specialty dealing with educational and professional aspects of Primary Health Care (PHC) as intended in WHO 1978, 2001, 2008 documents.
In Italy PHC had many possible translations (assistenza primaria, cure primarie, assistenza distrettuale ,assistenza primaria di medicina generale).
This created some confusion concerning Primary Health Care as in WHO original intent: sanitary and social assistance person, family and community centered.
This is the vision that Community Medicine is committed to, focusing on clinical, assistencial and coordination aspects as in the WHO indications of “Cure+Care+Coordination”.
